Pèlerinage Omrah et Hajj

Hajj, one of the five pillars of Islam, takes place over five main days (from the 8th to the 12th day of Dhul Hijjah) and consists of specific rites that begin upon arrival in Mecca.

1. HAJJ AT-TAMATTU' (Le plus pratiqué par les pèlerins internationaux)

Ihram for Umrah at the Miqat (intention and ihram garments).
Tawaf of Umrah around the Kaaba.
Sa'i of Umrah (between Safa and Marwah).
Desacralization (cutting or shaving hair) to exit Umrah.
Ihram for Hajj (on the 8th of Dhul-Hijjah from Mecca).
Day in Mina (8th of Dhul-Hijjah).
Standing at Arafat (9th of Dhul-Hijjah – major milestone).
Overnight stay in Muzdalifah (night of the 9th to 10th Dhul-Hijjah).
Stoning of Jamarat al-Aqaba (in Mina on the 10th of Dhul-Hijjah).
Animal sacrifice (Hady – mandatory).
Partial desacralization (cutting or shaving hair).
Tawaf al-Ifadah in Mecca.
Sa'i of Hajj (between Safa and Marwah).
Stay and stoning of the three Jamarat (in Mina: 11th, 12th, and optionally 13th of Dhul-Hijjah).
Farewell Tawaf (Tawaf al-Wada') before leaving Mecca.

A Divine Commandment (Quran)

Hajj is a direct command from Allah, explicitly mentioned in the Quran: "Surah Ali 'Imran (3), verse 97": "...And [due] to Allah from the people is a pilgrimage to the House, for whoever is able to find thereto a way. But whoever disbelieves, then indeed, Allah is free from need of the worlds."

There are indeed three forms of Hajj (Anwa' al-Hajj): Tamattu' (the most common for pilgrims coming from abroad), Qiran, and Ifrad.

2. HAJJ AL-QIRAN

Principle: Umrah and Hajj are combined. You remain in Ihram from start to finish.

Ihram for both Umrah and Hajj together at the Miqat.
Tawaf al-Qudum (Arrival Tawaf) in Mecca.
Sa'i of Hajj (can be performed right after the Arrival Tawaf or deferred until after Arafat).
Maintaining the state of Ihram (no hair cutting or desacralization).
Day in Mina (8th of Dhul-Hijjah).
Standing at Arafat (9th of Dhul-Hijjah).
Overnight stay in Muzdalifah (night of the 9th to 10th Dhul-Hijjah).
Stoning of Jamarat al-Aqaba (10th of Dhul-Hijjah).
Animal sacrifice (Hady – mandatory).
Partial desacralization (cutting or shaving hair).
Tawaf al-Ifadah (in Mecca).
Sa'i of Hajj (if not performed after the Arrival Tawaf).
Stay and stoning of the three Jamarat (in Mina: 11th, 12th, and optionally 13th of Dhul-Hijjah).
Farewell Tawaf (Tawaf al-Wada') before leaving Mecca.

3. HAJJ AL-IFRAD

Principle: Hajj only (no Umrah). Often reserved for locals or late arrivals.

Ihram for Hajj only at the Miqat (or from Mecca for residents).
Tawaf al-Qudum (Arrival Tawaf) in Mecca.
Sa'i of Hajj (can be performed after the Arrival Tawaf or deferred until after Arafat).
Maintaining the state of Ihram until the 10th of Dhul-Hijjah.
Day in Mina (8th of Dhul-Hijjah).
Standing at Arafat (9th of Dhul-Hijjah).
Overnight stay in Muzdalifah (night of the 9th to 10th Dhul-Hijjah).
Stoning of Jamarat al-Aqaba (10th of Dhul-Hijjah).
Partial desacralization (cutting or shaving hair; animal sacrifice is not mandatory here).
Tawaf al-Ifadah in Mecca.
Sa'i of Hajj (if not performed after the Arrival Tawaf).
Stay and stoning of the three Jamarat (in Mina: 11th, 12th, and optionally 13th of Dhul-Hijjah).
Farewell Tawaf (Tawaf al-Wada') before leaving Mecca.
